Bruce Willis

Birth Details:
March 19, 1955
Idar-Oberstein, West Germany

With both his Sun and Mercury in Pisces, this action hero is a peacemaker at heart.

'You can't undo the past ... but you can certainly not repeat it.

Sun in Pisces:

Walter Bruce Willis was born in Idar-Oberstein, West Germany, where his father, David, was stationed in the US military. His mother, Marlene, was a native of Kassel, Germany. When his father completed his tour of duty in 1957, he moved his family to Carneys Point, New Jersey. Bruce has a sister, Flo, and two brothers, David and Robert. Robert passed away in 2001. His parents were divorced in 1971.

Bruce went to Penns Grove High School in New Jersey where he became engrossed in drama. After his 1973 graduation he went on to Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey, where he continued to study dramatic arts. Before long he packed up and moved to New York City to pursue a career as an actor.

In 1977, he got a part in an off-Broadway production of Heaven and Earth. He landed a few other gigs, including parts in Miami Vice and Hart to Hart, but his career-making role was that of David Addison in Moonlighting, opposite Cybill Shepherd. The TV show ran from 1985 to 1989 and garnered Willis an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

Willis went on to star in two Blake Edwards movies -- Blind Date with Kim Basinger, and Sunset with James Garner. Then, in 1988, came director John McTiernan's Die Hard and another huge role for Bruce as the consummate action hero. His portrayal of Detective John McClane in the Die Hard series stands at number 46 on Premiere Magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Movie Characters of All Time.

In 1987, Bruce and Demi Moore were married. They have three daughters -- Rumer, Scout Larue and Tallulah Belle. Says Willis, 'I'm much more proud of being a father than being an actor. Who I am as a father is far more important to me than the public perception.'

At heart Bruce Willis is very gentle and receptive, perhaps even a dreamer. The world of his imagination and intuition is as real to him as anything in the outer world, though he may have trouble verbalizing his inner experiences in a way that others can understand. 'I am a sensitive guy,' says Willis. 'People think they know the real me, but they don't. And then they write things that make me sound like such a jerk.' Mystical, artistic, musical, emotional and imaginative, he has a rich inner life -- a virtual well from which to draw his many onscreen characters.

Willis is a man of great sensitivity and empathy. Amazingly nonjudgmental, he accepts people unconditionally regardless of their flaws. He has deep compassion for the suffering of his fellow creatures and often feels others' pain as if it were his own. President George W. Bush made the right choice in July of 2002 when he named Bruce Willis national spokesman for Children in Foster Care.Willis has the ability to sympathize with the needy and disadvantaged. Not shy about putting those feelings into words, he says, 'I want the government to take care of people who need help -- like the kids in foster care, the half million kids in orphanages right now ... I want them to take care of the elderly and give them free medicine, give them whatever they need. There's tons, billions and billions of dollars that are just being wasted.'

He is capable of giving selflessly and living a life of devoted and compassionate service to others. Given his movie characters, it may be hard to believe that Bruce Willis is a lover and a peacemaker rather than a fighter -- but he has vowed more than once to stop doing 'violent, save-the-world' action flicks.

His gifts may also lie in the realm of the artistic or musical. Just to prove the planets right, he has released two albums: The Return of Bruno and If It Don't Kill You, It Just Makes You Stronger. In January of 1987, his rendition of 'Respect Yourself' climbed the charts to number 5.

Sun Trine Uranus means that the unusual and unorthodox appeal to Willis. Craving freedom and excitement, he is a man of creative genius. Sun Quincunx Pluto guarantees that Bruce cannot go halfway in anything he does. There is a strong element of fate or inevitability in his life. A significant early loss could influence him to consciously seek out intense, life-or-death experiences. Whether this is true in real life, it definitely applies to many of his characters.

Mercury in Pisces makes Willis more poet than scientist, for his mind does not function in a strictly linear fashion. The language of music, art or poetry is natural to him, and he is able to think in highly abstract and symbolic terms. Translating thoughts and impressions into concrete, everyday language may be difficult at times. This was especially true when he was a child, and he probably daydreamed a good deal.

Venus in Aquarius points to an open, unconventional attitude towards love. Willis enjoys socializing, bringing people together, and having many friends of both sexes. He values friendship very highly and is likely more comfortable being a friend than a 'husband' in the traditional sense. He desires an intellectual rapport or spiritual bond with his love partner, but deep intimacy and emotional bonding do not come easily to him. He abhors jealousy and possessiveness, believing that no person truly 'belongs' to another. He appreciates a love partner who will allow plenty of freedom and is not very emotionally demanding. True to the planets' dictates, he and Demi remain good friends after their 2000 divorce. He even attended her wedding to Ashton Kutcher.

Mars in Taurus portends that once he sets his mind on a goal, his dedication is extraordinary. He is a reliable and consistent worker, often shouldering more of the workload than his co-workers. Establishing a routine is very important to his success because once he gets started, it is easy for him to follow through. Getting started is more difficult, as he does have a lazy, comfort-loving side. As he has said, 'I hate working out. I work out for films solely. I associate working out with films. As soon as they stop, I stop working out.' But don't expect him to stop working out any time soon because Live Free or Die Hard and Morgan's Summit are in pre-production. And we haven't even discussed the muscles he packed on preparing for the other three Die Hard movies, Pulp Fiction, Armageddon ....

Pluto Opposition Mercury/Venus indicates that his creative powers are very strong and he tends to regard art as a mission.

Jupiter in Cancer gives Willis the ability to make others feel accepted and comfortable. He has a loving, protective side that wants to take care of everyone. Saturn in Scorpio causes him to both yearn for and fear being emotionally vulnerable. Trusting others and letting himself be known in a deep way doesn't come easily to Bruce.

Saturn Square Pluto guarantees that once he decides what he wants to do, he will pursue it tenaciously. With profound inner resolve, he is willing to sacrifice a great deal and to struggle mightily to accomplish the things that matter most to him.

When asked whether he might consider seeking public office, he said, 'I think the rules are going to have to change for me to ever run for public office. My checkered past will always keep me out of politics. If I ever did run I would run on the platform that I did all these bad things, but I no longer do them, and during the four years of being president or whatever office it might be, I would be good and serve my country. I want to serve my country.'
